An extra who was one of the lads on Smithy's stag do in Gavin and Stacey’s finale has spoken out about what James Corden is really like.

Now, last night was an emotional time for all of us in the UK as we watched for the last time, the crew from Essex and Barry come together to celebrate one last time.

During the 90-minute episode (which could have been longer, let’s me honest), we watched as Smithy chose Sonia in 2019 and was now about to marry her, Neil the baby became 18, Nessa was cracking on and hustling old people out of 75 quid, and so on and so on.

Really, not much had changed and we love that.

However, it all came to a head when Gavin stood at the alter as Smithy’s best man and revealed to him that everyone thought he was making a massive mistake in marrying his fiancé, which led to the greatest chase to propose to Nessa ever.

We got the best ending we could have only hoped for and after 17 years, we can finally close the book on Gavin and Stacey and be at peace with it.

But one thing that has plagued the cast since the 2019 Christmas special is the rumour that writer and Smithy actor, James Corden is pretty rude in real life.

While he was branded as the most difficult presenter the director of A League of Their Own has ever worked with.

He was also called a ‘tiny cretin of a man’ for allegedly being rude to restaurant staff in New York.

However, there has been other people who have gone on the praise him for his kindness, particularly when it came to handling fans who tried to peek a view of the cast filming the last episode.

So, which is it? Is he generally rude or kind?

According to Scott McGlynn, who was an unnamed stag at Smithy's stag-do, he’s got first-hand insights into what Corden is really like in real life.

He told the Daily Star: "James, I've got to say he was so polite. He came around, shook everyone's hand, introduced himself, thanking everyone for being there, things like that.

"He was on his phone a whole lot. I was with him for four days and he was on his phone a lot, but a lot's going on."

There you have it.

Thankfully, Corden is a gentleman, and so is the rest of the cast.

McGlynn said that he really enjoyed filming with Larry Lamb, who played Mick and called him an ‘Essex boy’, stating: "I introduced myself to Larry Lamb – proper womaniser. We shook his hand, introduced myself, but ladies started to arrive on set then and he was just chatting away, like just being a proper Essex boy, and I love that about him. Such a fun character."

While he got to rub elbows with celebrities, it actually meant a lot more to him just to be on the show.

"I actually am from Barry," he said. "I grew up and lived in Barry. My whole family lives there.

"So that was very important for me, just being a Barry boy, being in a very famous Barry show."

He added: "We lost my dad earlier this year, and Gavin and Stacey was one of his favourite shows. So me just being part was just an amazing thing for me to do, because I knew he would just be so proud."
