Freddy and Jeff had appeared together on series two of the BBC show which was released in August 2024. However the filming took place over Mother's Day, as Jeff grieved over the loss of his mum who died of cervical cancer in 2009.
The father and son duo were filmed travelling 7,800 miles from Belém, in Brazil to Frutillar, Chile, with a strict budget of just £1,100 per person on the show, produced by Studio Lambert.
"It come at a f**king bad time, to be honest. Like the week before the master interviews, I’d had quite an extreme episode and I’d calmed down by the time of the interviews," Freddy explained The Terry Stone Connection podcast, shared on YouTube.
"I had smoked up there the night before the master interviews like a [expletive] after promising my dad I wasn’t going to come there being high.
"But I lied, turned up there, no sleep. Knackered. I think I must have had bags under my eyes, because the amount of make-up they put on me was a joke."
Freddy, who announced he had become a first-time dad earlier this year continued: "I weren’t in the place mentally.
"When I knew that we were going to be filming over Mother’s Day as well, I was like, “Oh [expletive] I’m going to have cameras in my face on Mother’s Day. I want to be alone.”
During the podcast, hosted by Terry Stone, Freddy went on to explain how he had taken some money out of the budget to spend on the drugs.
Telling of how he climbed out of a hotel window, he went on to add: "I was like, 'I’m okay, I’m okay', and I’ve gone to the beach and we’d seen these people before, they were couples and they make bracelets with countries on.

"They bought me a beer and I’ve taken some money out of the budget we were given, and I’ve went and bought myself a three five [of weed] in Brazil on Mother’s Day and smoked it with these two bracelet makers on the beach while looking at the stars."
"I was very selfish," he continued. "Looking back, and reflecting as I’m speaking, I was very selfish to do so because that could have cost us the show.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Freddy revealed how he was sectioned at the age of 17 after going into 'drug-induced psychosis' from smoking marijuana, later being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and bipolar disorder.
As per the NHS, BPD is a mood disorder which can include symptoms of emotional instability, disturbed patterns of thinking, impulsive behaviour, and intense, unstable relationships with others. Bipolar disorder is often characterised by extreme changes in mood, which range from mania to depressive episodes.
