'Nail-biting' Idris Elba drama compared to Taken available to watch in UK and can be binged in a day

To top it all off, a second series of the tense show has just been confirmed

If you're searching for something to watch, anything with Idris Elba in is a good start...but there is one series which he stars in which really takes the biscuit.

There's terrorists, a race against the clock, a whole lot of action - and of course, the London-born actor is at the heart of the entire plot line.

The tense drama can be binged in just one day if you've got a spare seven hours and to top it all off, a second series has just been confirmed by its creators.

What more can you ask for?

The series is available to stream now.

Elba said he was 'floored by the overwhelming audience response' to the first season and promised fans that the next instalment will 'bring the high octane back'.

In Apple TV+'s Hijack, the Luther star takes on the role of businessman Sam Nelson who finds himself in quite a precarious situation during a lengthy flight.

Take a look at the trailer here:

The plane gets taken over by terrorists, and thanks to his experience as a negotiator in the corporate world, the passenger takes it upon himself to try and make sure everyone on board stays safe.

The seven-episode series incredibly plays out in real time, as Elba's character is stuck on a seven-hour flight from Dubai to London with some not-so-friendly passengers.

Let's just say, it's one hell of a flight.

Some viewers have compared Hijack to Liam Neeson's hit thriller Taken, where he stars as a retired CIA agent who is forced to travel across Europe to track down his daughter who has been kidnapped on a trip to Paris.

Others reckon it's similar to the American drama 24, which also played out in real time as counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer took on all the bad guys the world threw at him.

One said: "Apple TV's Hijack is 24 meets Taken on a plane, starring passenger Idris Elba. Plus it's relevant to the setting."

Another wrote: "I totally enjoyed this show. It kept me on the edge of my seat, literally!

The series has been compared to the 2008 thriller, Taken.
20th Century Fox

"Every one of the seven episodes was so well executed. Hijack takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions; suspense, a couple of minutes of calm, then more suspense."

A third added: "I have not seen a series like this for a long time. I must admit I was anxiously chewing my sofa cushions. The twists and the turns are endless."

And a fourth chimed in: "This was a great series! My boyfriend is the harshest of critics and he couldn't stop watching. I was on my feet almost the whole last episode in anticipation. Glad I could binge it and not have to wait a week for each episode."
