Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares restaurant owners expose reality of show
It’s been 12 years since the final episode of Gordon Ramsay’s iconic Kitchen Nightmares but let’s be honest, its legacy lives on.
The show is iconic and well, pretty mad.
And when you’re watching it, some of it truly seems so wild that it’s hard to believe it’s real.
But luckily, a number of those who had Ramsay come storming into their kitchens have spoken out about the reality of filming it with the celebrity chef.

You might not be surprised that many people have actually pointed out that he’s pretty nice in real life, with one restaurant owner calling him a ‘good man’.
Oh, and he actually cares about the restaurants too, genuinely wanting to help them succeed while the show features him ranting and raving about their problems.
However, writer Lee Stranahan spoke with the family who owned Long Island, New York, restaurant Finn McCool’s about fabrication on Kitchen Nightmares.
The spot was featured in a 2007 episode and it apparently featured two fabricated moments.
Apparently, a moment was edited to make it look as though the chef had walked from the kitchen and drove off while what was actually shown on TV was a van belonging to a plumber.
Also, the piece by Stranahan claims a cook who dropped a chicken wing on the floor was hired only for filming ‘at the producer’s suggestion’. Plus, to add to the drama, producers apparently overbooked the dining room.
Importantly though, the family of Finn McCool’s say Ramsay was ‘warm, a great teacher and a good man’.
Meanwhile, an old interview in The New Jersey Record, saw Paul Bazzini, who owned Bazzini, claim: “You have no interaction with Ramsay at all. He comes with a very big machine of assistants and helpers. The only time that I ever spent any time with him was on camera.”
He also claimed producers seemed to want to create friction out of nowhere, with his wife and co-owner allegedly asked: “If this fails now, how can you stay with your husband?”
Elsewhere, John ‘Chappy’ Chapman who owned Nashville restaurant Chappy’s on Church claimed that making the changes Ramsay suggested ‘killed’ his business.
The décor and the menu at his spot was changed and he reckons this was part of the problem.
Chappy previously claimed that making the changes saw his restaurant go ‘down to one table in a night’.
There are contrasting reports of course. A Medium.com user Greg Taylor previously claimed to have dined at the infamous Amy’s Baking Company during the filming of a ‘before’ dinner.
He said the ‘cameras everywhere’ did make things feel rather ‘unnatural’ but that he saw a couple send a salad back, sending the owner ‘insane’.
“This behaviour that you see (or will see) on the show is 100% true to form and not doctored for TV,” Taylor claimed.
Back in 2023, the show was somewhat revived but let’s be honest, it’ll never be quite as iconic as the original, crazy, viral, noughties-esque Kitchen Nightmares and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA.
