The newly released Stranger Things documentary has shown that a major criticism which fans had of the finale was ‘ignored’ by the show’s creators when raised in a writers' room meeting.
Netflix have released a two-hour documentary about the making of season five One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5.
The fifth season of the show had mixed reviews, however the finale landed on a disappointing note for many superfans of the series.
This ultimately led to ‘Conformity Gate’, the idea that on January 7 a secret ninth episode of the season was set to be released.

Since that didn’t happen, the documentary has come at a bizarre time for the fanbase. They were therefore particularly enraged to find out a common criticism raised by fans of the finale was actually brought up by a writer on the show, but they were ultimately overruled.

This common criticism surrounded the complete lack of demogorgons in the finale.
In the final episode many of the main characters make their way into ‘the Abyss’ to kill Vecna and the Mind Flayer and save the world.
In seeing what was on the other side of the Upside Down however many fans were expecting to see a terrifying amount of demogorgons or other kinds of Stranger Things monster considering ‘The Abyss’ is where they all come from. Unfortunately, there were none in the end.

This became a major criticism from fans because the demogorgons, demodogs and demobats all became iconic parts of the show, with the demogorgon in particular basically being the main villain of the first season (outside of the US government).

In a conversation amongst the writers about the finale, writer Paul Dichter stated: “There has to be some monsters in The Abyss, there has to be demogorgon, bat, dog, something, it’s crazy if there’s nothing in there I think.”
Kate Trefry, another writer who worked on the show, responded however questioning if there would be ‘demo-fatigue’, particularly after episode four of the final season features such a climactic battle featuring the demogorgons.
Whilst Trefry’s view ultimately won out regarding the disagreement on the finale, fans are raging as this was a common criticism of the finale.

Though the reason they weren’t included, citing ‘demo fatigue’, was previously revealed – the idea that Dichter had raised the fact it would be ‘insane’ to not include them in the finale was news to fans.
One fan posted the clip with crying emojis saying: “The way they just ignored him.”
Another sent a furious tweet to the Duffer brothers, raging at the fact that they had someone ‘point out a major inconsistency’ in the finale and didn’t fix it.
One fan on Reddit meanwhile asked a brutal question, asking ‘why would Netflix release that’ about the documentary.

They referenced Dicther’s question, as well as the fact that the documentary exposed the fact that the finale began filming without a script.
