Viewers of SNL in the UK have praised the UK show's response to a controversial opening monologue by Shane Gillis on the US version of the show.
SNL UK cast member Ania Magliano delivered the rebuttal as a mock news segment.
"A ride operator at Munich Oktoberfest was praised for giving out free cycling shorts to female riders,"she began. "Wearing the gym shorts will protect women from being upskirted, but it does make them vulnerable to something much worse."
At this point a picture of Shane Gillis appeared on the screen behind the host, with the audience breaking out into applause.

"Last week on SNL comedian Shane Gillis also caused controversy by dropping the F-bomb," she said, to nervous laughter.
She then added: "Oh Shane, you're not allowed to say that," before herself dropping both an 'F-bomb' and a 'C-bomb', directed at Gillis.
One person reacted to the sketch by replying 'suddenly i’m patriotic', while sharing a video from the account of musician Rosalia, who was the musical guest on the controversial US episode, eating pastry while saying 'wow'.

Others also shared their positive reaction to the response on social media, with one replying: "That's a proper callout, love when sketch shows actually hold people accountable."
"So much more funny than his cringy monologue!" another wrote.
Someone else also complimented the response, writing: "That’s not a jab that’s a knock out."
Another complimented the UK version of the show, writing: "They’re doing everything the US version is afraid of doing".
Gillis did swear accidentally during his appearance on Saturday Night Live, but the main source of criticism directed towards the comedian was his opening monologue.
Gillis has faced sustained criticism after the performance, in which he complained about the way that women dress at the gym.
"I haven’t been to the gym in so long I didn’t know women just dress like w***** now?" he said.
"Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to describe [it]. Have you seen it? I’ve seen it. You’ve seen the shorts? They’re those neon, like, artificial bait-colored [shorts], and the wrinkles go around the cheeks and all combine at the butthole.

"And don’t look! You’re not allowed to look. For real, don’t look, because they are filming. I’m in the background of ten TikToks right now."
The monologue met with a backlash online.
"Please do better, SNL," wrote one viewer, while another replied: "He's not the slightest bit funny."
Meanwhile someone else even joked that Gillis, who has been fired from SNL several years before his controversial appearance, could be fired again, writing: "Shane Gillis might be the first person in history to be fired while doing an SNL monologue."
Gillis did acknowledge accidentally swearing at the end of his appearance, sharing a thanks for his musical guest Rosalia, as well as apologising to people in the studio and viewers at home.
"And sorry about earlier. Thank you guys very much. I had a good time," he said.
LADBible has approached representatives of Shane Gillis for comment.
