It's a fair argument.

Her bravery has been highly commended - now there are calls for Ariana Grande to be given the freedom of Manchester.

The pop artist had just finished performing at the Manchester Arena on May 22 when a suicide bomber killed 22 people and injured over 100.

Ariana immediately flew back to America to be with friends and family, but later released a statement to say that she would return to the city.

The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital was her first port of call, where she visited victims of the attack and told recovering fans how 'proud' she was of their strength.

The One Love concert saw performances from a variety of mega-star artists, including Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Take That, Pharrell Williams and Liam Gallagher.

It was attended by over 50,000 people - including some fans that were there on that tragic night. The event has been celebrated as a brilliant show of defiance and togetherness, reminding the world that Manchester will not be beaten.

The performance represented a commendable act of courage from 23-year-old Grande, who spoke of how she felt 'broken' upon learning of what had happened on the night of the attack.

At times she cried, but we all did. Manchester stood tall and united, once again, in the face of adversity.

As the music faded, following her 2014 hit One Last Time, there were instant calls for Ariana Grande to be given the freedom of the city.

Twitter users were quick to support the idea, with a petition later set up.

Matthew Duggan, creator of the 'Grant Ariana Grande the Freedom of the City of Manchester' petition, wrote: "Ariana Grande has inspired people up and down the country with her selfless acts of kindness.

"She didn't need to return to Manchester (after all she was a victim herself) but tonight she did and brought the nation to tears.

"For that I feel she should be granted [the] Freedom of the City of Manchester."

The petition has already amassed over 5,300 of the 7,500 supporters it needs before being taken to the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham.

Mr Burnham was at the concert last night and said on stage: "It's hard to find words to express how we feel today. But your presence here tonight says more than a thousand words ever could."
