Viewers Slam 'Cringe-Worthy' James Blunt Interview Following Awkward Plastic Surgery Joke On BBC Breakfast

Presenter Charlie Stayt said the star appeared to be getting ‘younger’, prompting a chat about plastic surgery

Viewers were squirming this morning as they watched a ‘cringe-worthy’ interview with singer James Blunt on BBC Breakfast, which included a particularly awkward conversation about plastic surgery. You can watch what happened below:

Blunt, 47, appeared on the show to talk about his new Greatest Hits album, having followed through – well, sort of – on his threat to release new music if Spotify didn’t remove controversial podcast Joe Rogan from its platform.

After a compilation of Blunt’s songs were played, presenter Charlie Stayt said the star appeared to be getting ‘younger’.

He told him: “You appear to be getting younger. Can I reflect on that for a moment? Looking at that video and looking at you now… what’s going on?”

Blunt then said with a smirk: “Well, you know, I think with plastic surgery it’s little and often is the technique I would advise.”

Stayt replied: “As you well know, some people will think that’s a double bluff."

But Blunt looked at him blankly, before saying: “It’s not, no… I don’t know where to go from here.”

As co-host Naga Munchetty began laughing, Stayt said with an awkward smile: “We’ll stop right there.”

Many fans slammed the ‘embarrassing’ interview afterwards, saying the conversation as a whole was littered with ‘inane’ questions.

One tweeted: “What a dreadful interview by Charlie and Naga, we had to turn it off as it was so appalling, even James Blunt thought so.”

Another said: “Very possibly the worst interview I’ve ever heard. Well done James for putting up with their inane questioning with such good grace.”

A third wrote: “That was a really surreal interview with James Blunt on #BBCBreakfast - they didn't know what to say to him, he didn't know how to respond. Weird.”

A fourth added: “Cringe worthy interview with James Blunt, so embarrassing, ridiculous, immature questions about his sleeping arrangements on the tour bus!! What about his music?!! James was thinking get me out of here!!”

Blunt has actually made the same joke about plastic surgery a number of times.

In 2020, Blunt appeared in a video for Australian radio station Nova 96.9, responding to a number of fans’ tweets.

One that was posed to the singer said: “Finally watched #Monsters by #JamesBlunt Wow. Very emotional. On a lighter note, how do men look better as they age and we don’t?! I don’t remember him looking so hot before!!”

In his response, Blunt simply quipped: “It’s called a little bit of plastic surgery. And my motto is little and often.”

The year before, he also shared some live advice with the Mirror, at one point saying: “There are so many things I’d change about myself.

“The premise I take towards plastic surgery is little and often.”
