Someone Has Worked Out The Price Of The Fresh Prince's Taxi Ride

Someone Has Worked Out The Price Of The Fresh Prince's Taxi Ride

"Yo, home to Bel-Air!"

We've all got to the point in our lives where we want to pack up our bags, call a taxi and say "Yo, home to Bel-Air."

Now, obviously it's not financially clever to jump in a taxi and pick up the fare at the end of such a long journey, but that doesn't necessarily matter when your aunt and uncle are flaunting their wealth.

Since the lyrics to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air's theme tune are so well known, we all know that Will Smith hopped in a cab to his new home following a fight with bullies back in Philadelphia.

One lad, who like the rest of us presumably spent a lot of time watching Will, Carlton, uncle Phil, aunt Viv and so on, decided he'd find out just how much that taxi journey would have cost. Or did he?

You see, the tweet going viral shows a taxi journey from Philadelphia to Bel-Air - but this is wrong. Keen Fresh Prince-rs will know that the full-length theme song that you may not have heard before actually says that his mum gave him a ticket on a plane, one which would take him to Los Angeles.

Let's say he got the flight to LAX, and then whistled the taxi with a license plate that said 'fresh' and had dice in the mirror. This would rack up a fare of $55.99 over a distance of just over 17 miles. It's not quite as much as that seven grand, 2,725 mile journey.

If we're simply paying attention to the lyrics that appear in the show version of the song, then Glenn Moore, who tweeted the cost, is correct and he is a bloke who certainly knows how to spend his time.

According to the Mirror, an inflation calculator says that $7,290.06 in 2016 would equal around $3,886.59 in 1990 when Will made his maiden journey in the taxi. Using the same calculator, $55.99 would have been $30.31 26 years ago.

Good job uncle Phil was rolling in the dollar, either way.
