You season four star explains importance of golden shower scenes

You season four star explains importance of golden shower scenes

You can always count on You for a surprising sexual narrative

The new season of You landed recently, and it's safe to say the reviews have been mixed.

But whether you've enjoyed its return or not, one thing fans of the series can count on is a surprising sexual narrative.

For those who are yet to catch up with Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) and all his murderous goings on, let's have a little recap.

The fourth instalment of the hit Netflix series sees the loveable rogue trying to make a new life for himself across the pond, settling down in London.

And if that wasn't unbelievable enough, old Joe has managed to bag himself a new job, mingling with a group of intellectual types in the capital.

One of the new characters we're introduced to is Adam, played by Lukas Gage - you may know him from that super awkward lockdown audition.

Well, in the new series of You, it turns out that his character has a rather interesting sexual peccadillo. In short, he likes being drenched in wee - or a 'golden shower' to you and me.

Speaking about the scenes where he's p***ed on, Gage said it was important for his character.

In an interview with Digital Spy, the 27-year-old said: "I always like to look at what we don't see about characters and what they hide from people, what has led them to that where they feel like they can't fully show people who they truly are and where that stems from."

In episode five of the new season, Adam's partner Phoebe discovers his kink.

Upset by the fact he's never asked her to p**s on him, she brings it up with him, asking: "May I wee on you, Sir?"

Adam tells Phoebe that he never wanted her to relieve herself on him because it's about power, and he doesn't see himself as being 'above' her, so he can't get off on the idea.

Tilly Keeper, who plays Phoebe, said: "It's written as a kind of comedic moment in the show, but I actually think it's a real poignant moment for their relationship because it demonstrates how much Phoebe's willing to do to get the love that she deserves out of her partner and how far she's willing to go to prove herself.

The new series of You is available to watch on Netflix.

"I don't think she's acting out of insecurity or desperation. But I think it's like she wants to validate Adam as well."

For Keeper, this is vital to her character and Gage's.

Despite the fact he doesn't treat her particularly well, she wants to treat him with respect, and to not embarrass him.

"There's no judgement," she says. "As there shouldn't be. Phoebe is pretty game. She's been around the block.

"So it's within the realm of possibility for Phoebe to be into it. But also, Lukas and I weren't poking fun at it at all because you gotta get your rocks off somehow."
