Amazon Fire Stick owners were urged to hand in their old devices this week, with many taking the opportunity to snap up the latest Fire TV Stick model - the 4K Select.

The new device is currently reduced from £49.99 to £19.99 in the Black Friday sale, with the deal ending on Monday evening (midnight on Tuesday December 2).

But some shoppers took advantage of an extra 20 percent saving by handing in their old Amazon devices, as part of Amazon's trade-in scheme.

As a result, the 4K Select has shot to the top of Amazon's bestselling devices list.

If you want to take advantage of the offer yourself, you'll need to hurry as the trade-in process takes up to two days to complete, and Black Friday offer ends very soon.

But what sets the new Amazon Fire TV apart, and how does it work? Find out everything you need to know below.

What does an Amazon Fire Stick actually do?

Let's be honest, there are a lot of Fire Sticks on the market now and it can be hard to keep track of the latest features and specifications.

In its simplest form, the Amazon Fire Stick is designed to transform any TV into a smart TV.

The nifty gadget enables you to access a range of channels and subscription platforms by simply plugging it in.

For instance, you will be able to watch your Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Disney+, and Amazon Prime accounts at the click of a button, no matter where you are.

What's more, the smart stick comes with Alexa voice control, meaning you can voice search for series without having to use the remote.

For serious streamers, there is also the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K (Max), which is Amazon's most powerful streaming device with a hefty 16GB of storage (double that of the 4K stick).

What's different about the Amazon Fire TV 4K?

So, why invest in the latest edition?

The biggest difference is that the Fire TV Stick 4K supports 4K resolution, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ for a smoother streaming experience.

Meanwhile, the older versions only support up to 1080p HD. It's faster too, as it comes with a powerful processor that supports the likes of Wi-Fi 6.

It's also the only streaming media player with the Xbox app, which means you can stream hundreds of games directly via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate - no console required.

Think the likes of Call of Duty, Black Ops 7, Hogwarts Legacy, and Outer Worlds 2.

For an even more cinematic experience, the Fire Stick also comes with an enhanced Alexa remote.

If you have smart home appliances, you can even control compatible devices such as lights and cameras.

Is there a monthly fee for the fire stick?

No, there is not a monthly fee for the Amazon Fire Stick. So, it's a good idea to get yours in the Black Friday sale.

However, you do need to have subscriptions for platforms such as Netflix and Disney+.

What is the point of a Fire Stick if you have a smart TV?

Already got a smart TV? A Fire Stick will provide an even faster, smoother streaming experience.

The smart device will also give you access to a wider range of apps and services, which you may not find on older smart TVs.

What's more, Alexa offers smart features such as voice control for when you can't find the remote. See you at the checkout?
