Influencer ‘violated’ after £475-a-month gym looked through her social media and rejected membership request

Money can't always buy you everything

An influencer has hit out after claiming to have been rejected from a £475-a-month gym after staff searched through her social media accounts.

For most of us, the biggest hurdle with joining a gym is actually getting up on a cold, rainy Wednesday and dragging ourselves down there to exercise.

Unsurprisingly, things are completely different in influencer world.

For starters, gyms which influencers and social media personalities haunt are more upscale than the £35-a-month places you and I are a member of, and will resemble a wellness spa more than anything else.

But more expensive doesn't always been better quality, as one LA influencer recently discovered.

Revealing the incident on the Cancelled podcast alongside co-host Tana Mongeau, Brooke Schofield explained how she'd recently applied to be a member of an unnamed, upscale gym and was rejected for after filling out the application form.

Brooke initially showed up at the gym alongside a friend, expecting the sign-up to take place in person — only to be told applications were only accepted online.

"What are the qualifications, do I need to show you my cellulite and bank balance," Tana joked in response.

Brooke then sat down to fill in the application form, expecting to be asked questions about her personal interests and fitness goals. You know, the stuff you'd expect to be asked on a gym sign-up form.

However, Brooke was taken aback to learn she just needed to provide her name, email, and Instagram handle, which should already be raising red flags.

"When it was over, I felt like I just got violated," Brooke said, going on to reveal that she was denied a membership while her friend was accepted.

"If they accepted me now, I'd be like, 'f*** you guys so much'," Brooke said of the rejection.

"Because what did you see that first time on my Instagram that made you deny me to begin with?"

It's an understandable reaction, but we're still trying to get our heads around the fact that a gym could even cost so much in the first place. Then again, it is Hollywood, so this fact shouldn't surprise us too much. After all, Los Angeles is the home of $20 (£15) smoothies.

The clip has since gone viral, and people had a lot to say about the existence of an obscenely expensive gym turning down people based on their social media profiles.

"I am realising I wouldn't survive in LA," one person wrote, while a second added: "SIX HUNDRED A MOOOOONTH I’m sick."

"Isn’t this the same concept as buying a Birkin?" a third user speculated. "You can have the money for it but doesn’t mean you can purchase it."
