Cinema-goer shocked after discovering where Odeon popcorn actually comes from

Even if it does feel like you’re taking out a mortgage, it almost seems impossible to sit through a film at the cinema without a little treat.

Yeah, sure you can take in your own food but all that popcorn blowing behind the counter is just so tempting. But a cinema-goer was recently left shocked after discovering where Odeon’s actually comes from.

Sharon Kayembe had watched Alien: Romulus at the Odeon cinema in Chelmsford, Essex, on Monday (19 August) when she spotted a van making a delivery on her way out.

And when she looked closer at just what was being ‘delivered’, the 37-year-old was left rather ‘confused’.

The librarian could see a bloke carrying huge bags of ready-to-eat popcorn towards a trolley, apparently to be delivered to the cinema.

This took Kayembe aback as she assumed the chain’s ‘perfectly popped for freshness’ popcorn was made fresh on site.

“I was completely shocked. I've never seen that before, I couldn't believe it,” she said.

Kayembe admitted she thought they were ‘massive pillows’ at first as she couldn’t comprehend why popcorn would be ‘popped in a vacuum sealed bag’.

The mum added: “They weren't hiding it or anything. It's sold as 'perfectly popped' so you'd think it was freshly popped. Because of the high price of popcorn you'd think it would be freshly made.”

Kayembe shared a clip to TikTok, writing: “The popcorn at ODEON is not freshly popped? It's pre-popped. Who else knew this?”

As viewers were divided over it being ‘common knowledge’ that all cinemas ‘just warm it’, the woman added: “If something's vacuum sealed I suppose it's not going to go bad or anything but it just doesn't make sense.

"Popcorn takes two minutes to make. I'd assume if you say 'can I have some popcorn' they've previously made it and kept it warm or if they didn't, they could make it. I thought it would take two minutes."

Kayembe's not going to let it stop her from buying the ‘amazing-tasting’ snack though, but she is going to make it her 'mission' to see if she can taste the difference.

She explained: "Does it taste old? Of course not. It tastes amazing. There is no popcorn out there better than cinema popcorn.

"You would never in a thousand years think that they'd just bought some bags in. How long does it stay in those vacuum bags?

"It would put me off but at the same time the taste is the same. Am I going to eat it again and try to find something wrong? Yes, 100 percent."

LADbible has contacted Odeon Cinemas for comment.
