How much could your car be worth?

Stats showing the bestselling second-hand models on WeBuyAnyCar in 2024 show a Ford Fiesta sold for £20,315, a Ford Focus for £27,711, and a two-year-old Nissan Qashqai was purchased for £25,530.

Interestingly, one of the biggest payouts of last year came from a one-year-old BMW 3 Series, which fetched an impressive £42,790.

Sell your car

Of course, not every car is going to go for that much dough; a vehicle's value will differ depending on how old it is, how far it’s travelled, its service history, and general condition.

Surprisingly, once a car leaves the showroom and begins life on the road, it can lose up to 35 per cent of its value. This shoots up to 60 per cent by its fifth year of cruising.

It’s important to remember that these particular vehicles are no more than a couple of years old and have been sold in tip-top condition.

So, how much could you fetch for your own used vehicle? Have a check below.

How to sell your second-hand car

So, you’ve decided it’s time for you and your old motor to finally part ways. The good news is that there are a few ways you can sell it online.

First off, head to a second-hand car dealer’s website and enter the vehicle's registration number and mileage.

This information should help the retailer's car value checker determine the vehicles’ current value, based on the most recent market data.

Sell your car

Here are a few of the most popular car resale sites in the UK:

  • Webuyanycar: A simple and efficient way to sell your car. By dealing directly with the company, you cut out any haggling you may face with private sellers or dealers. One of the downsides, though, is that you may end up with a lower valuation due to them taking a margin to sell your car. Charges a transaction fee of between £49.99 and £124.99.
  • Carwow: If you don't fancy the hassle of a private sale, check out Carwow. All you have to do is submit your details, and the site does the heavy lifting - listing it to their network of trusted dealers. It's completely free to use.
  • Autotrader: With Autotrader, you’re given the option to sell your second-hand car privately or via an auction. Be aware: there’s usually a listing fee from around £18.95 to £49.95 for cars.
