Woman smokes weed again despite being hospitalised after suffering horrific 'scromiting' side effect

Ever thought being sick wasn't bad enough and wanted to throw some screaming into the mix? No? Obviously. It sounds horrific, but 'scromiting' is exactly what led to one young woman in the US being hospitalised and it's caused by smoking weed.

Sydni Collins didn't think any harm could come from smoking cannabis, but has been on a mission to raise awareness of the harm that it can cause after developing cannabis hyperemesis syndrome (CHS).

After seven visits to the hospital before finally being admitted, Collins was diagnosed with CHS which, according to Cedars Sinai, is a chronic condition that causes severe bouts of vomiting and abdominal pain, occurring daily in long-term users of the drug.

A regular smoker since she was 16, Collins contracted CHS just two years later and suffered prolonged bouts of scromiting.

She told The New York Post: "There were some days when it lasted until noon, and I would not go to school because of how bad it was.

"I would be puking all morning. I would let out yells or cries because nothing would come out. I was just dry heaving."

Yet, despite her terrible plight, she ended up smoking weed again.

Why a CHS sufferer returned to smoking weed

Writing in a lengthy Instagram post in 2023, Collins explained that shortly after her first episode of CHS, she ended up being diagnosed with Crohn's disease.

This led to disillusionment with her CHS diagnosis, leading her to question if it was even real.

As a result, she returned to smoking the drug nine months on.

"I would do it on the weekends and be fine and did it because it helped the symptoms of my chrons at first but it turned into doing it for fun and all the time soon after," she wrote.

Sadly, she suffered terrible consequences.

She said: "I went through the same thing (except 10x worse) and had to get a feeding tube again because I lost so much weight."

She was hospitalised for over a month, dealing with constant vomiting and nausea, excruciating pain in her stomach and being unable to eat.

Her struggles also led to a flare-up of her inflammatory bowel disease, which she then found out was Ulcerative Colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease.

Collins then explained a symptom that any weed smoker should be on the lookout if they want to avoid her fate.

"I’m writing this post again just to inform every one of the harms that can come from marijuana," she said. "If it makes you nauseous or lose your appetite, you should stop before it gets as bad as it did for me."

Thankfully, Sydni appears to be in much better health now, having shared several images of her partying and having fun with her friends, family, and boyfriend, Connor.

She has gone two years without smoking weed and has shared her journey on social media.
