How to watch The Odyssey in 70mm if you missed out on IMAX tickets

The film of the year has finally landed on the silver screen, but we won't all be able to watch The Odyssey as Christopher Nolan intended.

For those of you who don't already know, the filmmaker shot the movie on IMAX 70mm film cameras.

That means, every scene is designed to fill the entirety of IMAX 1.43:1 screens.

The catch? The UK only has three cinemas showing Nolan's The Odyssey on IMAX 70mm screens: London's The BFI IMAX in Waterloo, IMAX: The Ronson Theatre and Manchester's VUE IMAX Printworks.

As per Universal Pictures, the film reportedly took home an impressive US$264m (£196m) on opening weekend.

Due to overwhelming demand on this side of the pond, IMAX cinema tickets are now sold out at all three locations until September 10, 2026.

Are IMAX 70mm and IMAX the same thing?

Film buffs will know they're not the same thing.

As mentioned above, IMAX 70mm is a film format only available at three UK cinemas in London and Manchester.

However, the closest you can get is at Picturehouse, which is currently offering 70mm and 35mm screenings of the three-hour epic. You can buy tickets here.

On social media, fans have been sharing the difference between watching the film on IMAX 70mm and at a regular screening with some parts of scenes missing at the latter.

It's not the first time Nolan has dabbled in IMAX either.

In fact, 20214's Interstellar, 2017's Dunkirk, 2020's Tenet and 2023's Oppenheimer were all shot using IMAX cameras.

However, The Odyssey is the first film to be shot entirely on IMAX.
