Woman shares ‘hack’ to get free hot meal on flight without buying plane food

A woman has shared her 'hack' for getting a hot meal for free on a plane without paying the airline for their food.

Plane food is nobody's idea of a good dining experience unless you're in first class, and the extra cost on the bill makes many people think it's definitely not worth it.

TikToker @melies.vie said it was 'so expensive for gross food' and resolved to find a way around paying high prices for bad meals.

In the end, she developed her own 'hack' to get a hot meal on a plane without forking over a fortune on something you'd wish you never tasted.

It's pretty simple - she showed that you can bring a pot of instant noodles onto the plane with you as part of your hand luggage, or if the airline doesn't like that she recommended you 'smuggle' the pot on board.

Officially we really ought to say that trying to slip banned items onto the plane in your hand luggage tends to be a bad idea, even if it is just a pot noodle.

A hot pot of noodles is usually going to be better than whatever meal the plane is serving.

From there you just set it up all as you normally would with a pod of noodles and then ask the flight attendant for some hot water.

Add the hot water to the noodles, wait for father time to do his thing and hey presto, you've got a pot of hot noodles sitting in front of you ready to eat.

As people with megaphones like to shout in public spaces, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

This trick will save you the cost of paying for a meal on the plane but you will still need to bring your own pot of noodles on board the flight to make it work.

A few frequent flyers also took to the TikToker's comments to share some problems they had with her method.

Welcome to your restaurant, every meal option is disappointing.

One person pointed out that relying on plane water was a risky business right from the start as that stuff isn't always sanitary.

That's a view shared by many flight attendants too, who've warned that the onboard facilities for storing water basically don't always get cleaned so whatever's been in the water tank is probably not the nicest stuff to drink.

You might want to think twice before getting a cup of tea or coffee on board your flight and the same goes for pouring hot water into a pot of noodles.

Someone else said passengers could expand the hack by bringing other foods, commenting that they 'always bring McDonald's on the plane'.
