Cruises are the holiday of choice for many who want to get away and soak up new sights and experiences, but you never think about what goes on when the sun disappears.
Sun, snow, and beautiful scenery are to be expected when you travel to all kinds of places around the globe on the gigantic ships, but it's not always so idyllic.
Of course, people like them so much that they end up living on cruise ships, but there are always downsides to a cruise life.
Even though we aren't often shown that side of it, one YouTuber showed how eerily black the sea looks after dark, and it will freak you out for a long time. Actually, it might just be enough to put you off a cruise ship holiday for life.

Okay, so there's nothing scary in the video, but that's kind of the point.

There's 'nothing' in the video, full stop.
Posted on YouTube shorts by @planetcruise, the clip starts off from inside the cabin of a ship. Then, as they head out of the doors and onto the little balcony, everything basically disappears.
It’s totally black on the other side of the rail, and as the camera moves from side to side, you can just see some of the lights from the ship’s top deck and somewhat make out a neighbouring balcony.
But other than the glimmer of the odd bit of light reflecting, you can’t even see the waves moving below the beast of a boat.

So, to explain ‘what it’s like being on a cruise at night’, according to this video, it’s being in total and utter darkness with nothing at all to see.
And the more you think about and consider it, the creepier gets. Imagine not even being able to see where you are or what’s below you – pretty damn eerie.
One user pointed out: “Imagine falling overboard at night, you survive the fall. Nobody saw it. You see the ship leaving. You’re alone and see nothing."
New fear unlocked...
This then led to another slamming: “You cannot pay me enough to go on a cruise.”
Plenty of people have been put off cruising because of the darkness, while one eerily said: “Now imagine being on the Titanic with no moonlight…”
Although, one did comment on the YouTube short: “I have been on deck 20. There is nothing to see except the massive screen and people dancing. Amazing, Loved it.”
And very clearly, the spooky darkness isn't enough to stop millions from holidaying on cruises every single year... so I wouldn't let this stop you booking your next voyage out at sea!
