Going on holiday is just about one of the most expensive things you can do, especially when your holiday is on a luxury cruise ship.

Of course, every year new features, packages and deals are added that some how end up making your holiday much more expensive. But not this year, following a huge change to Royal Caribbean's drink packages, which are set to give holiday makers a bigger selection of drinks, at no extra cost to them.

What's included in the Royal Caribbean's refreshment package?

Before the recent changes, customers were able to purchase a refreshment package that would only include the following drinks:

  • Coca-Cola Freestyle Machine beverages including sodas, sugar free sodas, Minute Maid lemonades, Powerade, vitaminwater®, iced tea, fruit punch and more
  • Can and fountain soda
  • Bottled still water, sparkling water, and CocoLove coconut water
  • Fresh-squeezed juices
  • Smoothies and protein shakes
  • Specialty coffees and teas
  • Johnny Rockets® Shakes and Desserted Soda Floats
  • Frozen drinks (Non-alcoholic pina colada, etc.)
  • Coca-Cola souvenir cup

What's changes have been made to the refreshment package?

While this is an impressive list of refreshments, there was one type of drink that was left off the list, which confused passengers, non-alcoholic beers.

The new list includes non-alcoholic spirits, wines and beers (only available to guests of legal drinking age) giving customers much more to choose from.

Until recently, passengers would have to either buy non-alcoholic beers, wines and spirits separately, or purchase the Deluxe Beverage Package.

It's worth noting that the Royal Caribbean drinking age depends on where your ship sailed from. So, for example, if you left from a port here in the UK, you would need to be 18, however, if you left from the US, you would need to be 21, based on their laws.

Why are so many people excited about the change to Royal Caribbean's drinks package?

Over the years, cruises have become much more popular among millennials, a generation who studies suggest prefer non-alcoholic drinks over alcoholic ones.

With an increase in Royal Caribbean's guests being millennials, it's a smart move to help capture the attention of a growing group of customers for the cruise line.

It also means that passengers who want to steer away from alcoholic drinks, but still enjoy the taste can include those drinks as part of their package, without having to worry about spending extra money or missing out.

The cruise line hasn't made any official announcements about the change, but it's certainly being noticed and appreciated by fans of the cruise line.
