Distressing footage has emerged online recorded at a pig farm showing animals squeezed into cramped pens, shaking cold on concrete floors and carcasses left to rot inside the pens.

Animal rights activists recorded the footage before passing it on to PETA which then posted it to YouTube for the world to see.

According to the Daily Star, the video was filmed at Marcliff Farm in Driffield, Yorkshire, after three separate trips.

This is pretty graphic...

PETA spokesperson Elisa Allen said: "The suffering exposed in this video is not the exception - it is almost certainly the rule."

In the last year alone, four pig farms in the UK have been exposed for housing and treating the animals dreadfully.

The man who runs the farm, Neil Warkup, told the Daily Star the farm had only recently been visited by inspectors who'd found no faults.

"I work my heart and soul off in this place. It's soul-destroying. There was a few dead in a shed, they were pulled out ready to be taken away the next morning," he said.

"Maybe we should have taken them away, but that's the only thing we did wrong."

It seems farming regulations and regulators need a severe seeing-to.
