Leonardo DiCaprio has found himself in the middle of a pretty sticky situation regarding billions of dollars worth of embezzled money.

There is an investigation currently underway via the Department of Justice regarding $3.5billion that was apparently 'misappropriated' from the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund.

They're looking into whether or not this took place between 2009 and 2015. However, the kicker is that there is suspicions that millions of dollars were used to bankroll The Wolf of Wall Street and given to Leonardo DiCaprio's charitable foundation, according to a court filing from the Department of Justice.

Leo's now being urged to pay it back.

The Telegraph reports that the actor is not actually named in the documents, but given the very catchy title of 'Hollywood Actor 1'.

The company in question, 1MDB, is owned by the Malaysian governmentt. Apparently, it has raised more than $8 billion during its time active. However, US authorities are now speculating that $3.5 billion of that money was 'misappropriated'.

The Bruno Manser Funds, a rainforest charity, has apparently sent an open letter to Leo asking him to return the cash that he received from people connected to 1MDB.

The organisation went further, claiming that as Leo is the founder of his environmental charity and a designated UN Messenger of Peace, he needs to help stop corruption and make a stand against it.

So far, Leo and his representatives have kept quiet in terms of the allegations. However, we can probably expect a statement pretty soon.
