While the nation is going crazy in checking the serial numbers of their new plastic fivers, you might be better off having a look at your 50ps instead.

According to the Manchester Evening News, some 50p coins could be worth as much as £3,000.

In 2012, London hosted the Olympics. It was one of the most incredible sporting spectacles that the country has ever hosted. But more to the point, it released 29 different 50p coins. Some of the particularly rare ones could make you a lot richer than you are now.

Each was designed to reflect a sport/venue of the Games. Considering they were launched only four years ago, most of them are only worth a few quid, if that.

However, if you hold one of the original aquatic coins, which shows water passing directly over the swimmer's face, then you could soon be minted! One recently sold on eBay for £3,000.

Only 600 of these rare coins were manufactured before the design changed to show a clearly visible face of the swimmer.

I am all up for hearing about new ways to make money, especially when it requires naff all work.

The good news is that I do have one of the 29 designs. But the bad news is that it's the sailing venue one worth just £1.99, apparently. FML.
