Download Festival may have finished for another year, and headliners System Of A Down, Biffy Clyro and Aerosmith have all left the muddy fields of Donington Park.

Amidst all the raving and head banging that goes on, another head was banging in one of the festival tents, but for all the wrong reasons.

WWE fighters Ruby Riot and Asuka were due to fight in the ring as part of the wrestling organisations experimental division, NXT.

Usually, the injuries in the show-level wrestling are fake, but this was on very real injury. A collision with the steel ring steps left Riot needing five stitches.

One fan tweeted: "Asuka legit smashed open Ruby's head and there's blood everywhere."

Another added: "Ruby got busted open when she hit the steel steps. [The] ref throw the X sign."

Riot explained on Facebook after: "I went in thinking that Asuka was going to, for lack of a better term, play fair.

"Her actions today when she slammed my head into the corner of some steel steps... show that she does have a bit of an Achilles heel.

"I think that her biggest fear is losing the NXT Women's Championship, which rightfully it should be, especially after the streak that she's had."

WWE NXT later posted a photo on Instagram showing the 26-year-old wrestler, from Michigan, US, with her new stiches.

The stoppage means that Asuka has now surpassed CM Punk's 434-day undefeated streak as a WWE title holder.

It's not just WWE that's writing headlines for controversial reasons however. The world of kickboxing was landed in hot water last night, well, the actions of two fans in particular.

In fairness, the punch which he landed on Harut Grigorian may have been horrific, but it was legal.

As if that wasn't shocking enough, Grigorian was left lying on the floor as Groenhart celebrated and two fans took full advantage of the open stance.

Two fans proceeded to invade the ring and attack Groenhart who had his arms outstretched. They landed two big punches on him, captured by Thomas Niblock.

A shocking moment, but the Dutch-Surinamese is understood not to be pressing chargers.

Journalist Michael Stets tweeted: "Franklin said Murthel Groenhart told him he doesn't want to press charges on fan who attacked him."
