Lord Alan Sugar isn't shy of a few quid, we all know that.

He's pretty much in a position where he could have a roll of 50s as toilet paper and it wouldn't faze him in any way. To him, 'spare change' is a 20 pound note.

As business-savvy people have likely deduced, the less money you give away, the more you have for yourself.

He appeared to put this theory in action back in 2014, when he defended tax avoiders such as Gary Barlow, Jimmy Carr and Chris Moyles.

Lord Sugar claimed he'd been offered similar tax avoidance schemes to those employed by the three celebrities, but turned them down to sidestep any sort of embarrassment.

"To be fair to Gary Barlow and Jimmy Carr, they're performers - they're not businessmen. If they were proper businessmen, I would have no sympathy for them," he told the Mirror at the time.

"If they're performers, actors, this, that and the other, and getting loads of money coming in from what they do, and they go to an accountant and say: 'What do I do?' and the accountant says, 'Well, I can save you a bit of tax', I think they have then said, 'Fair enough, so long as it's legal - do it.'"

Still, Sugar is an honest man who pays his tax, allegedly pinning copies of cheques to his office wall and stating he's unwilling to 'live a life dodging taxmen'.

Earlier today, however, after urging the public not to vote for Labour in tomorrow's General Election, he was inundated with tweets claiming he was only saying that because the Conservative party wouldn't tax him as much.

It seems that plenty of Twitter users felt that a billionaire's political views couldn't be representative of the many.

He hit back at those calling him out, showing them a picture of a cheque he sent to HM Revenue and Customs in January.

Again, not really connecting with the masses, the cheque was written for a massive £58,646,028.44 - a figure that most of us can only dream about.

He wrote: "To the people who have responded to my advice not to vote for Corbyn saying I want to avoid paying tax; I paid this personally in January."

By the looks of it, though, the marker he used didn't manage to cover up all the major details in the picture (we've helpfully fixed that for him in the image above), as one tweet pointed out:

Lord Sugar isn't the only celebrity to announce his voting intentions this week - Professor Stephen Hawking labelled Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn 'a disaster', although he also said that "another five years of Conservative government would be a disaster for the NHS, the police and other public services." Decisions, decisions.

Despite this balanced consideration, he explained that he would be voting for the Labour party.

Remember to vote on 8 June, 2017.
