Shocking dashcam footage has captured the moment a plane hit power lines and crashed into a street in Washington.

The single-engine Piper PA-32 Cherokee Six leaked fuel as it hurtled towards the ground on Tuesday afternoon. No one was injured in the crash, but some drivers reported damage to their cars.

Officer Myron Davis from Mukilteo Police told King 5: "It struck the light pole where it erupted a fuel cell. It spilled fuel onto the roadway, onto a vehicle which ignited."

Eyewitness Amanda Hayes told the media outlet: "We definitely felt the fireball as it went over the van. I'm just thankful to be here."

"He didn't want to hit a building, obviously; he didn't want to hit an area where people are, and he saw this street was empty. He did a fantastic job."

Khal Nouri was in his car, waiting at a red light with his family, when he saw the plane struggling right above them. He said: "I thought it was the end of our lives.

One resident, Ron Cohnen, told Q13 Fox the pilot did an 'incredible job'.

Police said the plane had taken off from a nearby airport when it suddenly lost power. Unable to restart the engine, the pilot told investigators he had quickly diverted the plane to a quieter area so it would cause less of an impact. He and his passenger walked away from the crash with no injuries. Hero.
