An American TikToker has been left baffled by British parking habits, asking why some of us park cars outside our homes despite having garages. Watch below:

TikTok user Swfinds is an American living in the UK and has racked up more than 103,000 followers by pointing out peculiar aspects of British life.

In a recent clip, they pondered: “Why do British people build garages in their living rooms but then park in their front yards? It's so strange.”

Swfinds zoomed in on a row of homes that had cars parked outside their garage doors, prompting many social media users to take to the comment section and offer explanations.

One social media user replied: “We just store stuff in there. The houses are quite small,” while another echoed: “Sometimes people store things in the garage and have no space for the car.”

A third person wrote: “Probably because of the car exhaustion that produces carbon monoxide which is deadly in the house,” and a fourth added: “We don’t build them in our living room, the building companies build them with the house. We use them for storage mainly.”

Others couldn’t help but poke fun at the clip, with one person writing: “We store all our tea in there obviously.”

“We use the garages as a room to pray at Queen Liz,” quipped another, while a seventh person added: “Hun, that’s the washing machine’s apartment.”

Other videos posted by Swfinds include: ‘Why do British people call pubs curse words?’, ‘Why do the British call the subway the underground?’ and ‘Why do British people put raw chicken next to other groceries?’.

One of Swfinds’ most popular videos asks: “Can someone please tell me why British people plant trees in asphalt, don’t they need water to live? I’m confused.”

The post, which has accumulated more than 615,000 views, shows trees planted in concrete on a British highstreet.

While some people offered up serious answers, including: “Dig deep you'll find moisture in most places. The asphalt is surface level. Deeper the roots go the more moisture. Plus the tree will absorb rain,” others got creative with their answers.

“The roots burrow under the shops and pubs so it can have a cheeky Vimto or a pint whenever it needs,” quipped one person.

Another added: “They are magic portals to tea land, the tea underground waters them,” while a third penned: “The Queen personally blesses each tree which causes them to become immortal like her and not need water.”
