It is rare that a picture can so quickly go from being one of the worst things you've ever seen to one of the best things you've ever seen.
At first glance, the image of a corgi puppy lying flat on its back as though its just been brutally whacked by a mafia hitman is almost too much to bear. Mercifully though, all is not as it seems, as further pictures reveal the pup in question is in fact alive and well.
It transpires the puppy inadvertently faked its death and nearly gave us all a heart attack after going on a food raid before having a kip in this unorthodox but fantastic position.
Uncovering the truth behind this faked death scene has proven to be quite tricky, with the dog in question named variously as Candy and Gody and the food identified in differing reports as jam, watermelon and dragon fruit. There's also the matter of whether the picture was staged or authentic.
A bit of digging reveals the original post was shared on a Facebook page called Candy The Corgi, however, the fact it is a Vietnamese page means it is still quite difficult to verify the facts (for me at least).
From what I can decipher, it seems the pooch pictured in the viral photograph is Gody and Candy is an older dog in the family, possibly a parent.
Dog Squad TV originally reported that the food was dragon fruit, which is also known as pitahaya or strawberry pear. However, a video previously shared on the Candy The Corgi Facebook page shows a watermelon being left for a corgi sleeping in identical fashion in the same room - though the corgi in question looks a bit larger, so may be Candy.
To summarise then, it appears the puppy in question is a corgi called Gody, based in Vietnam, which slept in a funny position after making a right mess of either some jam or a watermelon, which was probably intentionally left out by its owners.
Ultimately though, the precise details don't really matter, what is clear is that the dog is excellent, the pictures are excellent and they scared the s*** out of lots of people.
One person commented: "This scared the c**p out of me!!!!! Not I'm just giggling....such a Corgi act!"
Another said: "Lol I was boutta be furious at someone for a sec."
A third added: "Oh my god the terror to cuteness shift of this is a real roller-coaster ride."
Now let us all relax and take comfort from knowing how peaceful this pup was in its jam/watermelon-filled slumber.
