Dog owners in Glasgow have been warned against letting their dogs eat anything they find on the street after a man was spotted leaving sausages out on the road with fish hooks wrapped up in them.
Imagine going out of your way to do something as wantonly cruel as that. Very strange and worrying behaviour, indeed.
The alarm was raised by Twitter user Dawn McIntosh, who shared a picture of the potentially harmful sausages online on Wednesday (19 August), describing how her son had seen the unidentified man 'throwing something on the ground and hurrying away' in the Knightswood area of the Scottish city.
When Dawn's son arrived at the scene, he saw that the sausages had been wrapped up in fishing line with a number of dangerous looking hooks sticking out of them.
It seems clear the man's intent was to have them eaten by someone's dog.
Dawn decided to do the right thing and got rid of them, while also sharing her disgust and shock at the man's actions.
She shared a photo of the gruesome meat products, writing: "Knightswood this morning... guy spotted throwing something onto ground and hurrying away."
Dawn went on to say that Police Scotland had been notified, and added: "All dog/animal owners be vigilant please."
She later shared another warning on Facebook, this time adding the exact location of Cowdenhill Road in the Glasgow suburb of Knightswood.
Obviously, people were appalled by her son's discovery, and completely bemused at how someone could deliberately try to cause such harm to an innocent animal for no reason whatsoever.
Glenn Thompson, who is a councillor down in South Tyneside, commented: "Someone has sat down, thought about this and taken the time to manufacture something that would cause the maximum pain and heartache! What state of mind must they be in?"
Others have described the actions as 'pure evil'.
So far, there's no clue as to who is responsible, but this is far from the first instance of this nature in the area.
In June, a load of dog biscuits were discovered with pins laced into them just under five miles away in Anderston.
In fact, that was the seventh such incident in the area since March 2018, and an investigation was launched by the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Advert
Let's hope they can come up with something before any animals are harmed.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.20pm on Wednesday, 19 August, 2020, we received a report that a member of the public had found sausages laced with fish hooks on Cowdenhill Road in Glasgow earlier that morning.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
