Truth be told, we’re not sure they’d place highly on our list of romantic getaway destinations but beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all - the Aran Islands were recently named as one of the world’s best honeymoon locations by travel group Big Seven Travel.

Located just off the west coast, this trio of islands came in at number seven on the list - placing higher than some seriously stiff competition including Maui, Florence, Mallorca and the entirety of Mexico!

The list is based off digital data including Google search trends, Instagram hashtags and dedicated Pinterest boards. The travel group then ranked locations, judging them on their overall romance and what amenities and unique activities they offered to newlywed couples.

“These three remote islands off Ireland’s west coast are like stepping back into time, with a rural charm and stunning scenery that will take your breath away,” the travel group wrote.

“Visitors can either walk around them or cycle the pretty roads that are lined with hand built brick walls. Hear Gaeilge being spoken, enjoy fresh seafood and the simple things in life.

“The sheer cliffs looking out into the Atlantic ocean and the famous local hospitality make these a must visit for any couple who want to enjoy a romantic and secluded stay. Dive into the famous ‘Poll na bPeist’ swimming hole and stay at Inis Meáin Restaurant & Suites.”
