Bank Leaves Customers With 'Nothing' After Taking Double Payments In Error

Some people said they were left with no money in their account due to the issue

A bank has left customers with ‘nothing’ after accidentally taking double payments on some accounts, leaving many people fearing they had fallen victim to fraud

TSB apologised to its customers after 'issues' meant some accounts were hit with ‘duplicate payments’, with the bank confirming it was working to fix the problem.

Some people complained that they had been left with no money in their account due to the issue, while others said it left them concerned that they had targeted by fraud.

In a statement on Twitter this morning (Tuesday 15 March), TSB said: “We’re aware of some issues related to duplicate payments on some customers’ accounts.

“We’re working hard to fix these issues and will ensure customers are refunded for duplicate payments. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.”

Many customers commented on social media to express their frustration, with some saying they no longer had sufficient funds in their account to do the ‘weekly shop’.

One said: “You’ve literally left me with NOTHING, and I mean nothing. The money I had set aside for a weekly food shop today … gone. How long til this is fixed??”

Another said they were ‘completely wiped out’ after being left with £9 ‘to do a full weekly food shop for 5’, while another said they had just 7p remaining in their account.

One asked: “How long to sort out though, I’m left with 83p in my account because of this, how do I feed my family today?”

A fourth tweeted: "You've left some vulnerable people with literal pennies or in unarranged overdrafts - this is not 'an inconvenience' this is grounds for compensation."

Others said they had initially panicked that they'd been scammed out of their hard-earned cash, with one saying: "Thought I was the victim of fraud again. Will these payments be automatically refunded? Can’t get through calling and no one is picking up chats?"

Many customers also called on TSB to specify when they would be getting their money back, with one saying they had got through to somebody on the phone and was told 'by the end of today'.

Another said angrily: "Refund TODAY. No messing, no excuses. Make sure we get our money back TODAY. Plus a nice dollop of compensation, please and thank you. Have you turned off your phones? As it says the line is busy."

LADbible has contacted TSB for comment.
