Britney Spears has suffered a miscarriage early into her pregnancy. She shared the tragic news in an Instagram post that you can read below:

The post says: "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy. This is a devastating time for any parent.

"Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along. However we were overly excited to share the good news. Our love for each other is our strength.

"We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family. We are grateful for all of your support. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult moment."

She added to the post with a caption saying: We are grateful for what we have in the process of expanding our beautiful family. Thank you for your support."

The singer had announced she was having a baby with fiancé Sam Asghari on 11 April, which would have been her third child. She had boys Sean, 16, and Jayden, 15, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

The heartbreaking news follows a period of much more promising events in the life of the popstar. Following a long battle, in November 2021 her conservatorship was terminated at the request of Judge Brenda Penny.

Her dad Jamie had been suspended as conservator of her estate the previous September, which was the same month she announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari.

Britney has been with Sam for six years after meeting on the set of her 'Slumber Party' music video. He's supported her through some of her toughest struggles, including the conservatorship battle she faced against her father.

He popped the question in September 2021, with the pair keeping most information about their upcoming wedding a secret.

Last year, the singer claimed she had been forced into taking birth control while she was under the 13-year-long conservatorship. Prior to its termination, she spoke out publicly against it: "I am not happy, I can't sleep. I'm so angry, it's insane. And I'm depressed. I am traumatised. I just want my life back.

"I want to end this conservatorship without being evaluated. This conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good. I deserve to have a life, I've worked my whole life. I deserve to have a two to three-year break."
