Elvis Presley's former girlfriend Linda Thompson believes The King may have attempted to contact her from beyond the grave.

Linda, 71, thinks the iconic singer may have been sending signals to her by cutting the power.

According to the Daily Star, Linda said that while she was preparing for his funeral, all the lights went out in her apartment, while the rest of the block was unaffected.

Linda said: "I always said if anybody could come back and give a sign, it would be Elvis and not Houdini."

She also recalled a time, exactly eight years after his death, when the power went out at the Comedy Store in LA while she was there.

Linda says all the other buildings along Sunset Boulevard were absolutely fine, but at the Comedy Store the show had to go on by candlelight. At the same time, there was a candlelit memorial service taking place at Elvis' Graceland estate.

Linda and Elvis were together for more than four years, after the pair met in 1972.

However, the relationship soured and Linda decided she could no longer cope with the singer's lifestyle.

He tragically died on 16 August 1977 aged just 42.

And although the pair had gone their separate ways before his death, Linda still remembers him as the love of her life.

Speaking last month, Linda said she believes her former partner would be 'proud' of her.

She said: "I think first of all he would be proud of me and how I have tried two conduct my life in a way that has always respected him and his memory.

"That's first and foremost to me. I'm a fan as much as anybody else is a fan of Elvis Presley.

"Also he was the love of my life. I adored him."

Linda has also spoken about the heart-breaking moment she was told Elvis had died after getting a phone call from his young daughter Lisa Marie, who was just nine at the time.

She told the Express: "I said, 'hello' and she said, 'Linda.' I said, 'hey', she said, 'It's Lisa.' I said, 'I know who this is, you little goobernickel'. It was a pet name Elvis and I had for her.

"She said, 'My Daddy's dead, my Daddy's dead.'"

"I can't even tell you what I felt. I was stunned and paralysed. I said, 'What? No, he's not.'

"She said, 'Yes he is, yes he is. He's dead'. The only thing that brought it to reality was when she said, 'He's smothered in the carpet'.

"And when she said that, I just threw the phone because I thought, 'OK, he's gone. That's it. Nobody checked on him'."
