First Blood Star Brian Dennehy Has Died, Aged 81

Actor Brian Dennehy has sadly died.

His daughter Elizabeth confirmed the news in a statement on social media, which said: "Larger than life, generous to a fault, a proud and devoted father and grandfather, he will be missed by his wife Jennifer, family and many friends."

The 81-year-old starred in films like First Blood, Tommy Boy, Assault on Precinct 13 and Gorky Park.

Tributes for the actor have been flooding in since news of his death was announced.

First Blood co-star Sylvester Stallone wrote: "The great actor Brian Dennehy has passed away. He simply was a great actor... The world has lost a great artist."

Fellow actor James Woods said: "I'm just devastated to hear we lost my beloved friend and colleague, #BrianDennehy.

"We were partners on two of my favorite films, Split Image and Best Seller. I've never laughed so hard as we did every day on the set or off. For a big 'tough guy', he was a sweetheart. #RIPBrian."

Russell Crowe added: "Brian Dennehy has passed. He was a fine actor . He was good company. It was a privilege to work with him. Condolences to his loved ones."

In his time as an actor, Brian won a Golden Globe Award, two Tony Awards and was nominated for six Primetime Emmy Awards.
