According to the publication, his reps confirmed the news, but couldn't provide any further information on why he was taken.

His first five albums cemented him as rap royalty in the US, with all of them, including his 1998 debut It's Dark and Hell Is Hot, went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

He's also got a few big screen appearances under his belt, having had parts in Romeo Must Die (2000), Exit Wounds (2001) and Cradle 2 the Grave (2003).

There has been an outpouring of support for the artist on Twitter, with music industry heavyweights and celebrities sharing their thoughts with fans.

In 2019, DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, finished serving a one-year sentence for federal tax evasion and was released from a prison in West Virginia.

He then went on to cancel a series of live shows when he announced he had checked himself into a rehab facility.

A short statement was posted on his official Instagram at the time.

It read: "In his ongoing commitment to putting family and sobriety first, DMX has checked himself into a rehab facility. He apologizes for his cancelled shows and thanks his fans for their continued support."

More recently, the star had posted on Instagram with images of him in the studio and on film sets for various projects.

LADbible has reached out to reps for comment.
