Terri Irwin has revealed she and later husband Steve had a 'pact' before he died in which she vowed to 'keep everything going'.
In a heart-wrenching interview, 55-year-old Irwin opened up about what life has been like since her husband died in 2006 after he was fatally stabbed by a stingray barb near Port Douglas in Queensland.
She told The Courier Mail: "We had a deal that if he died first I would keep everything going, so it was never really: 'Am I going to do this?' but it was, ''Oh my goodness, I am actually going to have to do this. And I was, to be completely honest, so afraid."
And carry on is exactly what Terri has done, working her way through a '10-year-plan' that included running the Australia Zoo, which has a number of conservation projects and a specialist hospital for wildlife.
She also carried on with the family's TV work with the income from the projects going towards vital funding for the zoo after being prompted by then eight-year-old daughter Bindi.
Terri went on to say that 13 years on from Steve's death, she has managed to achieve everything the couple had planned to do.
Fifty-five-year-old Terri also addressed rumours surrounding her love life, saying that romance hadn't been a priority since Steve's death.
Terri told the news outlet that she was able to laugh at the rumours about her and potential partners.
She added: "I think the most flattering would be Russell [Crowe] because he is such a good person, and a very good friend to our family, and I actually do really love him because he loved Steve and they were such good friends."
Speaking to PEOPLE back in 2018, Terri said she hadn't been on a date since her husband's passing, explaining: "I think it's wonderful when people who have lost someone find love again, but I'm not personally looking, and I haven't been on a date in 27 years.
"I'm content. I have two beautiful kids, a really full plate. I've already had my happily ever after.
"Steve was someone who was larger than life and really did live life to the fullest. Even though he died at 44 years of age, he lived such a full life and that's what I want to do and share."
