The family involved in the car crash with Ant McPartlin have slammed the TV star's actions, calling their experience over the past few days a 'nightmare'.

Indian restaurant owner Faheem Vanoo and his wife Shilpa Dandekar were driving with their three-year-old daughter Amaira in South West London when the crash took place this past weekend.

The family's Mini was hit almost head-on by another Mini driven by the 42-year-old TV presenter, who was driving home with his mum after taking his dogs for a walk.

Faheem told the Mail Online: "The whole experience has just been a nightmare. It is not something that we ever expected, but we are just grateful that no one was hurt.

"It has been a terrible experience and it feels like we are coming out of a nightmare. It has left us all a bit shaken up."

McPartlin was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving before he was questioned and later released by police. Inquiries into the accident are still ongoing.

Thankfully the family only sustained minor injuries in the crash. Amaira, who was looked at by medics, is now said to be fine.

Faheem has now described the family's perspective on the crash, saying he was terrified his whole family could have been 'wiped out'.

He told the Sun: "[McPartlin] was driving like a maniac. His Mini came flying around a sharp corner on the wrong side of the road trying to overtake a blue car.

"I hardly had time to react and turned in towards the kerb to avoid a head-on collision.

"I'm convinced that split-second turn of the wheel saved us all from being crippled or killed. I reckon he was doing 50 or 60mph.

"I don't care whether he's a millionaire [and] a famous TV star - he could have put my daughter in a wheelchair."

McPartlin, who also sustained bruises along with his mum Christine, is said to be 'distraught' that the couple's child was involved in the accident, according to one of his family members on Tyneside.

Shilpa hinted that McPartlin had been in touch with the family but she declined to say any more about the incident, saying that Faheem is dealing with that.

Following the accident Ant has taken the decision to take time away from television indefinitely while he re-enters treatment, following his stint in rehab for an alcohol and painkiller addiction last summer.

ITV have also made the decision to cancel this weekend's episode of Saturday Night Takeaway, with execs exploring the option of Ant's on-screen partner Dec Donnelly presenting the last two episodes of the series solo.

An ITV spokesman said: "ITV has taken a joint decision with Ant and Dec's team not to broadcast Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend.

"We will be reviewing options for the last two episodes of the series which would not feature Ant... We very much hope that he gets the help that he needs."
