The girlfriend of a former British rugby player - who was killed on a stag do in Las Vegas - says that she spoke to him just 10 minutes before he died.

On 9 June, Chris Moran was believed to have been crossing the road when he was struck by a lorry on a freeway at about 5am.

Despite efforts to save him, police said that the 32-year-old of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Leeds United fan, who played rugby league for amateur team Westgate Common, was believed to have been hit on the southbound I-15, which runs through the main strip.

Girlfriend Georgia Cooke, 25, who was on holiday at Butlin's at the time, told the Mirror: “We’d been speaking up until 10 minutes before – he was saying how amazing Vegas was and that he wanted to bring me there.

“He was having the best time and we were so excited for our future together. We had just secured a mortgage for our first home and had plans to get married and have kids.”

Georgia, who is a residential worker for children with special needs, said: “I had a call from one of Chris’s friends around 8pm to say what had happened. I couldn’t speak and refused to believe it.

“I don’t know what I am going to do without him – he brought me so much happiness.”

She added: “He was the kindest person in the world – he would do anything to help anyone.

“You couldn’t meet a more selfless, caring person.

“He did loads for his friends and family and adored his niece.

“He played rugby every weekend, which he really enjoyed, and was very passionate about his business.”

A GoFundMe page was set up seven days ago to help raise money to bring him home.

At the time of writing, £39,250 has been raised from a £35,000 target.

Georgia said: “He’d be amazed. I don’t think he would be able to believe it.

“He was so, so loved by everyone and I hope he knew that.”

In a social media post, colleagues at Findmy.car, where Chris worked, said: "We all arrived at work with a feeling of sadness inside of us knowing there will be a constant void at findmy.car that will sadly never be filled.

"We reminisced, cried, laughed and cried some more."

A spokesman for the Foreign Office added: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Las Vegas and are in touch with the local authorities.”

Nevada State Police have since uploaded a photo of the site where Chris died and have reminded people to only cross at official crossing points.
