On 7 November, 2003, Antron Singleton was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

He'd been convicted of murdering his 21-year-old roommate Tynisha Ysais and eating parts of her body.

Ysais' body had been found dead in an apartment by a friend with teeth marks on her face and lungs, and a knife blade was found broken off in her shoulder blade.

They told the court they found Singleton, who went by the name Big Lurch as a rapper, standing naked in the street and staring at the sky.

When he was later examined by doctors they found human flesh in his stomach that didn't belong to him, and Yasis' boyfriend said that he and the rapper had taken the drug PCP the day before the murder.

While the rapper pleaded not guilty on the grounds of insanity during his trial, he was found guilty of murder and aggravated mayhem and sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The court agreed with the prosecution's argument that drug use couldn't be used as grounds for pleading insanity.

Big Lurch once spoke out to say why he murdered and ate his roommate, claiming he thought the world was ending and he needed to 'kill the devil' before it happened.

He said: "I mean, all I can remember, the world was going to end. I had to find the devil, to kill the devil before the world ended.

"That's the last thought that I had."

After murdering Tynisha and eating part of her body he ran outside naked and covered in blood, which is when he was spotted by a neighbour who went to check on the 21-year-old and found her dead.

He said he 'didn't know' he was eating human flesh, claiming the next thing he remembered was 'waking up in a room'.

PCP is an anaesthetic drug which can stop people from feeling pain, but it can also lead to them having serious hallucinations.

It can lead to people taking it going into a 'severe psychotic state', with FRANK warning: "This is a mental condition that stops you from thinking clearly, telling the difference between reality and your imagination, and acting in a normal way."

The drug poses a serious risk to both mind and body, and it can result in someone taking it becoming a danger to those around them as Antron Singleton was to Tynisha Ysais.
