Cristiano Ronaldo's sister Katia Aveiro has spoken out against the negative press her brother has received.

On Sunday (13 November), Piers Morgan posted a snippet of his 90-minute TalkTV interview with Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo. You can watch the shocking clip below:

The clip sparked controversy as a result of the 37-year-old sportsman slamming Manchester United's US owners for allegedly not caring about the club.

The centre forward said he felt 'betrayed' by Man U bosses.

He added: "The owners of the club, the Glazers, they don't care about the club, professional sport.

"It will be hard for Manchester to be top of the game in the next two or three years."

Ronaldo's sister Katie Aveiro has since taken to Instagram to defend her footballer brother.

Aveiro shared a picture of her and Ronaldo to her account.

She captioned the image: "[Translation] Glad your character and dignity don't leave you. I feel sorry for people who live, chin up, pointing fingers like they built more than you.

"There are people who are like this: weak, untrue (I don't even know if this word exists) but I'm not worried about it at all. There are people who live in the shadow, who live on the facade, who live in silence, are hypocritically ungrateful even to themselves.

"Today, watching someone pose, be brave, be safe is criticised, people drown in their own illusion, many of them live to see others walk, even the ground itself is afraid to step on, because they are afraid to fall, poor people, in fact, it is not less, nor more than anyone who is bad, but it is bigger who is it for real.

"Nowadays it's hard to find people like that.

"You don't need to prove anything anymore, you built an empire from nothing, you already have a legacy for the next generations, no one takes that away from you, you could scratch your tomatoes (yeah I say it like that ) and whistle to the side, ride your private jet wherever you want, you could cruise your 27-foot long boat and enjoy the days in the sun of the country you want."

Ronaldo's sister went on to note how the footballer has earned everything he's got in life and that it's his achievement 'alone'.

She continued: "You could and can do everything you want, but once again you decide to be different and brave as few cowards are, to be an example of a man is to go to the fight without fear of the stains that easily disappear from the horizon.

"To be a man is not to give up on your ideals, being a man is showing truth is face the sharks and keep swimming, (your kids will be so proud of you), your end is not yet here, but these last few years are exactly the same as the beginning."

Aveiro questioned whether Ronaldo remembered the time some people said he wouldn't 'go anywhere' and would be 'nothing in life,' - how the footballer was branded as 'wrong' and 'weak'.

Ronaldo's sister concluded: "They said (poor fellows) only those who know where they came from, know where they are going, and you my brother know very well what you are made of, congratulations on never going out of your way, it has always been you, and it will always be only you.

"It's no problem. You hang on. You are unique. You are special. So proud. Thank you bro."
