Cruise crew member reveals sex schedule 'everyone who works on ships will have experienced'

Lucy Southerton knows a think or two about sex schedules when it comes to working on a cruise ship

Sleeping with your colleagues on a cruise is a touchy subject with a lot of complexities surrounding it, which is why there’s such thing as a ‘sex schedule’.

Lucy Southerton, from Birmingham, has spent almost a decade working out at sea, after becoming a massage therapist on cruise ships at aged 19.

She shares the ins and outs for cruise employees on her YouTube channel Cruising As Crew, and answers people’s burning questions.

She’s shared what mistakes not to make on board, and what you can do if you don't want to be made fun of.

But there’s one thing that people who are travelling miss the most, and that’s sex.

So, you might be tempted to get off with the people closest to you, which are your colleagues.

"So, I think it's kind of well-known that a lot of stuff goes on, on cruise ships," she said in a viral video.

"And it's all kind of 'incestuous' in a weird way because when you live in a small town there's only a certain amount of people.

"So you know, friends end up hooking up with friends, who then end up going with the other friend, and that's like cruise ships.

"Ultimately, there is only a certain number of people to choose from, so things are going to cross over at certain points."

However, there’s a lot of planning involved when it comes to sex on board and it’s pretty frustrating.

“Unless you are sleeping with an officer or someone who is quite senior on board, you will be sharing a cabin and so will your partner,” Lucy began. “And this means that you have roommates to contend with.”

She explained: “So, it kind of takes the passion out of the start of a relationship because you’re not really able to be as spontaneous as you might like.

“Basically, what I’m getting at is a sex schedule.”

She shared that you’ll have to arrange when you can get down and dirty with your roommate so that you can have total privacy with your beau.

Lucy went on to explain that without having your own cabin, ‘it makes it difficult to just seize the moment and be like 'oh, like I really want you now''.

She said that it’s more like, ‘well, we're gonna have the cabin in four hours’…

While it’s not great for your sex life, there’s only one other alternative if you don’t want to share a room.

A ‘sex schedule is something that everyone who works on ships will have experienced’, and those who are officers and are senior ranked have their own cabins.

Lucy shared that this is why men will go for female officers and women will approach male officers for hook ups; to ensure that you’ve got total privacy.

While she doesn’t suggest going for someone purely for their sleeping arrangement, it does happen.

That being said, she has warned against the different repercussions of sleeping with co-workers at sea, stating: "Make sure you know what you’re getting in for before you attempt it."
