Demolition Crew Accidentally Tears Down The Wrong Home

An American demolition crew has been left a little red-faced after accidentally tearing down the wrong property.

The 97-year-old pink house in East Dallas, Texas became an innocent victim to a terrible mistake when the crews rolled in thinking it was the place that had been earmarked for destruction.

According to reports from 7News, workers from JR's Demolition couldn't see any house numbers on the property or on the sidewalk, where they can be commonly found, but assumed they were in the right place.

The pink home didn't have any plumbing, electrical wiring or gas metre and was missing a foundation. So it really did seem like they had found their job for the day.

People from the area didn't stop the demolition from happening because loads of properties get torn down and renovated.

Neighbour Zach Basich told CBS 11: "I was pulling up just as the bulldozer and wrecking crew was getting out of here. Didn't think much of it, just thought another permanent demolition in the neighbourhood."

The previous owner of the home died three years ago and gave it to 'good friend' Jeremy Wenninger, who lives in California.

He was only informed about the property's destruction as the bulldozers were getting to work. It's a cruel blow to the bloke because he was planning to renovate the place.

JR's Demolition owner Bobby Lindamood has profusely apologised about the situation and is working with Mr Wenninger to see what can be done.

He released a statement to CBS 11, adding: "JR's Demolition is a small family business who has been in the demolition business for 15 years. I, as the owner, have been in demolition over 35 years, and after 50,000 plus structure demolitions, this is the first incident wherein the wrong structure was demolished.

"We made a mistake and thought we had the right property. Many homes on Richard Street have been demolished by JR's and other demolition companies in connection with the current redevelopment and revitalisation of this area.

"Nonetheless, JR's inspected this property ensuring that it was empty. The rear door was boarded up and lacked a non-operational front door. The front yard was covered with cut trees debris just as any demo house is before demolition.

"Neighbouring workers stated the property had vagrants and has been vacant since October last year. In short, the property was similar in appearance and condition to many of the properties that JR's demolished on Richard Street."

Mr Wenninger said he had lost something of sentimental value, and hopes any resolution reached with JR's will honour this.
