Fans of FIFA have been left baffled after EA Sports announced the latest addition in the series of popular games.

FIFA has become one of the most popular and instantly recognisable gaming brands online, with successive editions being released every year.

The game features updates with brand new players so that fans can play with their favourite footballers.

But the new version of FIFA has had a slight change. Instead of sticking with the old name, the latest version is called 'EA FC 24'.

Fans are not too keen on the new name, with one person saying on Twitter: "Someone explain what have they done to FIFA."

The new game has been rechristened.

But why has the name now been changed after so long?

Well, the answer lies in licensing and the agreements between studios.

EA's 30-year-long collaboration with FIFA is now finally coming to an end. This means that going forward the studio has elected to rebrand its video game content.

So they won't be using the FIFA branding going forward, instead the game has been rebranded as 'EA FC 24'.

So, if you want to pick up a football game for 2024, EA FC 24 might be the way to go.

The partnership between EA and FIFA has come to an end.

Meanwhile, FIFA has announced that it will be developing more games in collaboration with third parties in the future.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: "The new FIFA game - the FIFA 25, 26, 27 and so on - will always be the best egame for any girl or boy, we will have news on this very soon."

However, eagle-eyed fans have noted that the list given by Infantino did not include an entry for 2024. This could mean that FIFA itself will not be releasing its own game for 2024.
