One of the most controversial films of recent times has finally landed on Netflix. Watch the unsettling trailer here to find out what all the fuss was about:

And based on the reaction by those who have seen it already, it was well worth the wait.

Since it hit the streaming site over the weekend, viewers have been raving about how utterly bonkers it is.

Temporarily cancelled in the US, the black comedy is an incredibly violent satire of the country's political state.

Netflix

The Hunt centres on a dozen 'deplorables', who are kidnapped and then chased down for sport by a group of liberal elites.

As the group is picked off one by one, in extremely bloody fashion, Crystal (Betty Gilpin) goes on a mad rampage, turning the hunters very much into the hunted.

The synopsis for the film reads: "Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don't know where they are or how they got there. In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, ruthless elitists gather at a remote location to hunt humans for sport.

"But their master plan is about to be derailed when one of the hunted, Crystal, turns the tables on her pursuers."

Netflix

Its release was pulled following two mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas, back in 2019.

At the time, Universal said in a statement: "While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film.

"We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film."

The swirling controversy surrounding the film was added to by former US President Donald Trump, who tweeted: "Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate!

Netflix

"They like to call themselves 'Elite', but they are not Elite.

"In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite. The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!"

The film's release was eventually pushed back to March 2020 but it has now landed on the popular streaming site, where it is proving very popular indeed.

Praising the movie, one viewer said: "Do yourself a favour and watch The Hunt on Netflix. It's really very amazing."

While another added: "Just watched The Hunt on Netflix and I actually liked it. Crystal is a bad a**."
