Meal With The Most Calories On Wetherspoon Menu Nearly Hits Your Full Daily Intake

The budget boozer's monster dish packs a gut-busting punch

Wetherspoon is known and loved for its selection of incredibly cheap booze and food.

Sure, the selection of dishes on offer might not be the healthiest out there, but they serve a very important purpose: soaking up the half-dozen pints of lager you've probably sunk during your visit.

But you might want to be careful next time you pop in for some grub, because one dish will almost wipe out your entire recommended calorie allowance for the day.

The Empire State Burger is an absolute monster. Made up two chunky beef patties, American-style cheese, maple-cured bacon, as well as six onion rings and a helping of chips, the dish will set you back just £9.55 or £10.85 with an alcoholic drink (prices may vary depending on the pub).

And while your bank balance will be incredibly grateful, your waistline might not be so understanding, because all that meaty goodness comes at a cost of 1,949 calories.

To put that into perspective, the recommended daily allowance for a man is 2,000kcal for women and 2,500kcal for men.

So yeah, you've been warned.

But it's not just the calories people have been counting, an entire Facebook group has been set up dedicated to keeping track of the number of chips customers are served.

Scrolling through the updates, a punter called Sam got a not too shabby 30 chips alongside his buttermilk chicken burger, but added that 'some of them were small though and didn't count as chips' in his eyes - nonetheless he reckons it wasn't 'too bad' although he was a bit disappointed about the size of some of them.

But if Sam reckons he had it bad, a bloke called Adam got served just 12 chips with his burger, with one fellow group member saying it was 'unthinkable scenes'.

Indeed.

Another customer, called Meadow, shared a similarly poor showing, being served 14 chips alongside her panini - prompting one page member to comment: "I don't often cry but it's sights like this that makes me well up. Such a pitiful amount of chips."

Facebook/Wetherspoons paltry chip count

Not content with just counting his chips, a fella called Dan pulled out a measuring tape to find out the length of his chips, noting: "21 chips, average chip length was 2.75 inch overall. Good effort."

Another man appeared to be a bit upset that his other half wouldn't let him bring a set of weighing scales to the pub, writing: "Large mixed grill, a bang average portion of 26 (although there were a few tiny ones that barely qualify as chips).

"Partner wouldn't allow me to take scales to weigh the chips."

Probably for the best, mate.

Responding to the bizarre pastime, Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon told LADbible: "A few years back Wetherspoon carpets were all the rage on Facebook, so it's probably no surprise that someone has now started a chip account.

"All pubs should serve the same weight of chips, but the number of chips might vary depending on the size of chip."
