Lifelong Vegetarian Physically Sick After Chomping On Pizza ‘Smothered In Ham’

Lifelong Vegetarian Physically Sick After Chomping On Pizza ‘Smothered In Ham’

The regular reaction to eating a Domino's pizza is one of deviant joy - you know it's naughty, but who can resist a giant slice of pizza smothered in garlic and herb sauce? Don't @ me.

However, quite the opposite effect was had on one lifelong vegetarian after she was physically sick from eating a pizza that she claims was covered in ham.

Shannon Rich, 22, says she and her partner Paul Davies, 22, ordered two vegetarian Roma pizzas - one with added mushrooms - earlier this month from a Domino's in Newport, South Wales.

In case anything outside of Meat Feast has yet to hit your peripherals, the Roma pizza is supposed to consist of goat's cheese, Roquito cherry peppers, red onions and rocket leaves on an Italian-style pizza base.

Shannon did what most of us do when the pizza finally arrived - chowed down on a couple of slices without giving it a second thought. However, she later explained that when she came up for air, she realised she'd been chomping on meat.

University student Shannon said: "We ordered the pizzas and when they came they were literally smothered in ham.

"We were hungry obviously when it arrived and when I opened it I just bit into it - I never saw meat on the pizza before I ate it.

"I ate two slices and then I looked and saw there was meat on there.

"I asked my partner and said, 'Oh my god, is that meat?' and he said, 'Yeah.' Then he opened his again, he'd eaten some of his and there was meat on his too. It made me physically sick.

"It didn't even smell like meat. I was hungry and just indulged in it - I ate two slices.

"I didn't know it was on there. It was hidden and I don't even know what meat tastes like.

"When I noticed, I ran to the toilet and tried making myself be sick to just try and get it up.

"My boyfriend just ate the two slices too, but he's not as bothered as I obviously am because he's not been veggie his whole life.

"It makes me feel ill even when I think about it.

Shannon has said she is not happy with the response she's received so far, although Domino's has said she has been 'reluctant to cooperate' with their attempts to investigate the allegations.

Either way, the ordeal is enough to put Shannon off pizza for life - it must be bad. She said: "I haven't eaten pizza since and probably won't eat pizza again - not even shop-bought pizza. I'd never again order from Domino's again, it's put me off pizza for life.

"I also can't say now that I've not eaten meat my whole life, I don't even feel like me any more."

Louise Butler, a spokesperson for Domino's, said: "Upon receiving the allegation we immediately offered to collect the pizza to investigate, but Ms Rich was unfortunately reluctant to cooperate.

"We have also offered a goodwill refund on more than one occasion, though we've yet to hear from Ms. Rich."
