An alcoholic has revealed the three types of drinker you could be, with warning signs if you fit into the categories of concern.

Corey Warren has accumulated a huge following on social media as he has candidly shared his sobriety journey with thousands.

The YouTuber has over 228,000 subscribers and has shared his own experiences with relapses, relying on the substance, and how he has rallied to be five years sober.

Corey, from Michigan in the US, is now a business owner and public speaker, who launched a nonprofit organisation to raise money for those who are struggling with addiction.

The dad-of-two has shared the three main differences between a normal drinker and an addict in the past, with it all having to do with control and having 'reasons' to drink, or not to drink.

Now, he has revealed that when it comes to drinking alcohol, there are three types of drinkers and you are likely to be in one of these categories.

Corey explained: "There are three different types of drinkers in this world and figuring out which one you are might just change everything."

So, what are the three types and more importantly, which one are you?

Social drinker

He said that this is who 'all of us wish that we were', adding: "This is the guy that can have one, two, maybe even three, and then go home for the night. He knows his limits. He knows his boundaries.

"If he is drinking, it's usually like a Friday night, Saturday night, a special occasion, a wedding, an event. But this guy's not taking it too far."

If you think this is you, he said that there's a 'test' you can do - social drinkers wouldn't have thought about alcohol today, while people who are problem drinkers probably would have.

"Social drinkers, they just don't care, they could take it, they can leave it. It doesn't matter," he pointed out.

Escape drinker

This is the next level, as Corey said this person 'looks like he's got his whole life together', whether it be a good job, raising a family, or appearing healthy - but behind the facade is someone who is drinking a lot.

He claimed: "When he's sad, he's drinking. Lonely, drinking. Bored, drinking. Happy, drinking. Angry, drinking. No matter what the case may be, he's drinking. Alcohol is a coping mechanism."

The YouTuber said that it's all to do with the reason behind your drinking rather than the amount that you're drinking.

"The escape drinker is a perfect example of that," he said.

Dependent drinker

The third and final type of drinker is commonly misconceived, said Correy.

"A lot of us think the dependent drinker is the guy that wakes up in the morning, drinks, blacks out. We associate this with jail, rehabs, hospitals, DUIs, alcoholism, but that's not always the case."

He highlighted that this person 'doesn't drink for fun anymore', but rather because they 'need it'.

"It's not about partying too much and it's not about being weak. It's about the fact that alcohol has hijacked the brain and made it so that now we need alcohol in order to survive, or at least that's how we feel."

Corey went on: "We can't really understand what life would look like without alcohol and I only know this because I lived many years in this position as a dependent drinker, watching time slip away.

"My kids, my family, my job. Alcohol had such a hold on me and I didn't even realise it."

He urged others who might experience these things to 'take a step back' or 'get help', advising that they could even book a consultation with him on his website.
