Banishing booze for a month had quite the magnificent effect on this woman's face.

Paige Raeleen cut alcohol out of her life for 30 days as part of her 'sober experiment', which she documented on her YouTube channel.

She explained that she wanted to share the good, bad and ugly parts of her personal challenge with social media users, as well as the 'insights she gained' during it.

In the video which she shared online back in January 2024, the yoga instructor admitted that it 'took a lot of self discipline' for her to not pick up an alcoholic beverage.

Paige wrote: "Breaking a habit is hard!! I want to share an accurate portrayal of the ups and downs of quitting alcohol.

"Most people say the first week is the hardest and I definitely agree. In this video, I share what I have learned about my emotions and mental health throughout this journey."

A lot of people have been in her boat - and a ton will be in it this month too, given that 'Dry January' is currently in full swing.

After hammering the booze a bit too hard over the festive period, a lot of folks vow to go teetotal for the month - and sometimes, longer than that - to recalibrate.

Experts say that there's loads of long-term health benefits that come with abstaining from alcohol, but you can notice some huge changes in just a week.

And if you manage to go a full 30 days like Paige, you might notice a massive transformation in your face, too.

She showed off the difference in her face to her 16,000 subscribers after just 8 days of sobriety, before sharing another update 22 days later.

In a short clip shared to YouTube, the content creator appeared to boast a much brighter and clearer complexion.

But in the caption of the video, Paige admitted she had expected even bigger changes to take place.

She wrote: "Other than chopping my hair and my hormonal acne switches side on my chin... I honestly thought there would be a bigger change."

However, social media users reassured her that there was a drastic difference, even if she wasn't able to see it herself.

One person commented: "Wow. I see a big difference. Your skin is clearer and glowing."

Another added: "You look much better! Keep it up!"

A third said: "Your skin is glowing and you look so much more awake now, I can see the difference."

While a fourth chimed in saying: "The change is around the eyes, that’s hard won!"

What does the science say about how being teetotal affects your appearance?

As well as bringing about a host of other health benefits, cutting out alcohol can have a positive impact on your appearance, according to Drinkaware.

It explains: "Alcohol dehydrates your body, including the skin, and this happens every time you drink. This can cause your skin and eyes to look dull. But stopping drinking could help your skin’s hydration."

Drinkaware goes on to explain that our skin loses 'fluid and nutrients that are vital for healthy-looking skin' when boozing because of the dehydrating effect alcohol has on us.

"This can make your skin look wrinkled, dull and grey, or bloated and puffy. Dehydrated skin may also be more prone to some types of eczema," it adds.

"The effect of alcohol on your immune system and the way your circulatory system works affect the skin too. Drinking alcohol can cause or worsen psoriasis and rosacea."
