More and more people are moving away from alcohol and embracing sobriety, with the health benefits clear to see.

Celebrities including Ed Sheeran, Tom Hardy and Cara Delevingne have all been open about going sober in the past, and considering how much the price of a pint is these days, it's not all that surprising.

In all seriousness, there are plenty of reasons why people are giving up booze, and the health trends we see online are certainly one of the most common.

As we get older, the hangovers get far worse and it's easy to understand why folks are fed up with waking up on a Saturday or Sunday and wasting the entire day in bed with a sore head.

Dr Alex is one of the most prominent sober voices online, with the former Love Island star amassing a huge following on Instagram thanks to his advice and information about being alcohol-free.

He previously shared some of the biggest differences he's noticed over the past few years, and while several other sober folks focus on the good night's sleep, the Dr Alex is happier waking up without a hangover.

The GP explained in a video posted last year: "I've been sober now nearly two years and I still maintain that there is literally no greater joy than getting up on a Saturday morning without hangover on a day like this.

"Waking up with no hangover, not feeling anxious, not feeling like oh my gosh what happened last night or God I'm going to be be rough all day today. It's the simple things in life."

Another thing that has become more popular on social media in recent times is the acceptance of a cosy and calm life, rather than one which is dominated by Instagram-fuelled adventures. While both are fine, depending on your preference, Dr Alex certainly seems comfortable with enjoying the former rather than the latter.

He added: "We glorify, in our society, (an) adrenaline lifestyle. But feeling peace and calmness is so underrated and sometimes because we're not used to peace and calmness, when you stop drinking initially or have a change in your lifestyle, you feel like 'Oh my God I'm missing something!'

"Enjoy the present, everything you need is out here."

Another big-thing for the health influencer is the ability to meet like-minded people, as you'll struggle to find too many people with hangovers out with their dogs at 8am on a Sunday morning.

He explained that he loves chatting with other people out and about, which is something you miss out on when you're still at home recovering from the night before.
