Elon Musk Asks For Advice On How To Donate Money

Elon Musk Asks For Advice On How To Donate Money

Having become the world's richest man yesterday, Elon Musk has asked his followers for help with deciding on how to donate his money to worthy causes.

The Tesla and SpaceX boss yesterday overtook Amazon's Jeff Bezos following an increase in Tesla share prices, meaning he's now worth £138 billion ($188bn), according to Bloomberg's Billionaire Index.

But Musk wants to know how he can put his riches to good use, tweeting his 41.6 million followers.

He wrote: "Btw, critical feedback is always super appreciated, as well as ways to donate money that really make a difference (way harder than it seems)"

And while the suggestions came in thick and fast, it's not known yet what Musk will decide to do with his money, which is a staggering amount by anyone's standards.

He may decide to follow in the footsteps of fellow unbelievably rich business owner Bezos, who has set up his own foundation, the Earth Fund.

In November the Amazon co-founder confirmed the first of his £7.6 billion ($10 billion) pledge to help stop climate change.

He wrote: "I've spent the past several months learning from a group of incredibly smart people who've made it their life's work to fight climate change and its impact on communities around the world. I'm inspired by what they're doing, and excited to help them scale.

"Today, I'm pleased to announce the first Bezos Earth Fund recipients - 16 organizations working on innovative, ambitious, and needle-moving solutions. This $791 million in donations is just the beginning of my $10 billion commitment to fund scientists, activists, NGOs, and others. We can all protect Earth's future by taking bold action now."

The 56-year-old added who the recipients of the first lot of donations will be.
