Prague has been voted the most beautiful city in the world, edging out stiff competition from the likes of New York, Chicago and Paris in the latest rankings.

The results were published by travel publication Time Out after 27,000 participants from around the globe were asked to share what they felt were the best qualities of their home cities.

A whopping 83 percent of voters in the Czech Republic cited Prague's beauty as the standout aspect they associated with the capital city, more than the residents of any other city included in the survey.

The landlocked country has long been a popular tourist hotspot in Europe, largely thanks to a well-documented reputation for great beer on a budget.

A pint of local ale can be picked up for anywhere between 60p and £2.80, which for anyone who has recently paid London prices, is an absolute revelation.

However, pints aside for a second, it's actually the historic city's stunning good looks that are responsible for the latest accolade - which in fairness, aren't too bad either.

With jaw-dropping architectural landmarks like the Charles Bridge (the second oldest in the country), the famous 600-year-old Astronomical Clock overlooking Old Town Square and the largest castle complex in the world, it's not difficult to understand why the locals would be so proud of their surroundings.

A few of the other noteworthy highlights for any visit include Letná Park's spectacular hillside views, the recently-discovered Speculum Alchemiae - a miraculously intact 16th century laboratory - and the downright bizarre 'Dancing House'.

The beautiful banks of the Vltava river, which is the longest in the country, are also another popular spot with tourists and locals alike.

It wasn't just the aesthetics of the city that ranked highly in the new report either. Prague also came second when it came to Time Out's Index for relaxation.

If all of the above has ignited your passion for travel, and you want to cast your eyes over some of that beauty yourself, you might just be in luck.

The Czech Republic is currently on the UK's amber list when it comes to travel restrictions and guidance, meaning the rules surrounding travelling to the country and back are a little more relaxed than they have been in months gone by.

If you're fully vaccinated, on your return to England you'll just need to take a Covid test on or before day two of your return.
